Ben & Jerry's Founding Partner States Parent Company Blocked Pro-Palestinian Frozen Dessert Flavor
One of the co-founders of the famous frozen dessert company Ben & Jerry's has stated that corporate owner the multinational conglomerate stopped the introduction of a new pro-Palestinian ice cream flavor.
The entrepreneur, who established the company alongside his partner, revealed how he will personally create the controversial product as part of an individual collection highlighting issues the company was barred from addressing publicly.
Longstanding Dispute Between Creators versus Parent Company
This latest announcement deepens the ongoing disagreement between the world-famous dessert company with its corporate parent, the UK-based packaged goods corporation that acquired Ben & Jerry's for over two decades.
Both founders have asserted how Unilever and their ice cream division the Magnum brand unlawfully blocked Ben & Jerry's against "maintaining its activist principles".
The Fruit Sorbet as a Symbol of Solidarity
The entrepreneur announced via an Instagram video that he is creating an innovative watermelon-based sorbet, requesting consumer ideas for naming options and potential ingredients.
“I'm accomplishing what they couldn't,” the founder commented in a cooking set. “I'm creating a watermelon-flavored ice cream that calls for lasting ceasefire for Palestinians and calls for repairing the damage that occurred in the region.”
This particular fruit has become a symbol for solidarity with the Palestinian people due to its colors, which match those of Palestine's national banner – red, green, black and white.
Historical Social Engagement plus Recent Developments
Several years ago, Ben & Jerry's ceased sales of their merchandise in territories under Israeli control, leading to the parent company transferring their Israel business over to an Israeli distributor, thereby permitting continued sales in disputed territories.
This upcoming product line will be developed under Ben's Best, the socially conscious ice cream brand that originally established several years back to support former political contender Bernie Sanders via the product "Bernie's Return".
Management Changes plus Future Plans
Mr. Cohen revealed that he will create other ice cream flavors focusing on issues that Ben & Jerry's was silenced from addressing publicly due to Unilever.
This development comes after co-founder Mr. Greenfield resigned from Ben & Jerry's recently, following many years with the organization, mentioning worries that its independence had been undermined after Unilever's decision to curb its social activism.
At that time, Mr. Cohen remarked how “My partner has a really big heart and the ongoing dispute with our parent company was breaking it."
"My heart leads me to continue to work inside the company to fight for corporate autonomy so that it can achieve its ethical purpose, the principles that established its foundation while upholding for decades," he told media outlets.
