New Year Partygoers Told to Wrap Up Warm with Wintry Weather Forecast Across the UK
Meteorologists are reporting a chilly commencement to the new year, with snowfall expected across much of the UK. Celebrants have been told to dress warmly as sub-zero temperatures are predicted for New Year's Eve.
Hogmanay Celebrations Continue In Spite of Forecasts
The Scottish capital's famous Hogmanay events are expected to go ahead, a contrast to last year's postponement. This is in spite of weather alerts for snow across northern Scotland.
"A chilly New Year's Eve night for those who are celebrating, so warmer clothes will be essential," stated the national forecaster.

Further north, skies will be cloudier, but this is unlikely to impact visibility for seeing fireworks. "There is no expectation of low cloud, mist or murk, so you will likely be able to see fireworks, just not stars," added one forecaster.
Extensive Weather Alerts for Friday
As we enter Friday, weather warnings have been issued for Northern Ireland and extending from Wales, across parts of the north-west, the West Midlands and all the way to London and the majority of the south-east of England.

- Hold-ups and call-offs are anticipated on the transport network.
The Mercury Set to Plummet Further
With the start of 2026, it will be "chilly no matter where you are," said forecaster Simon Partridge. Conditions are forecast to plummet as wintry showers and strong winds are likely to batter the north of the country.
About 10cm of snow is expected to have built up in some areas by Friday morning, with up to 30cm on the most elevated routes and peaks.
Medical Warnings Activated
In addition, amber-level health advisories are in force for the north-east and north-west of England. These are expected to remain in place until noon on 5 January, with temperatures likely to fall to between 3C and 5C.
The health agency explained this meant the weather could to cause major effects across the NHS and care systems. This encompasses a expected uptick in the fatality numbers among the elderly or unwell or those aged 65 or over.
