During a unambiguous message to Western nations, Leader Vladimir Putin stated to Prime Minister Narendra Modi that Russia remains committed to maintain “unbroken” deliveries of oil to India. This declaration came as the two leaders met in Delhi and asserted their partnership were “resilient to foreign coercion.”

A Statement Directed at the United States

The statement, made on Friday, was widely seen to be a pointed rebuke at western countries, that have repeatedly attempted to compel New Delhi into reducing its historical ties with Moscow. This comes comes after recent American measures, such as additional import duties against Indian goods due to its purchase of Moscow's energy exports.

“Russia is a dependable exporter of energy resources and all required for the advancement of India’s industry,” Putin remarked. “Moscow stands willing to keep securing the uninterrupted flow of energy for the fast-expanding Indian economy.”

Modi, while not mentioning oil explicitly, supported the focus by saying that “a stable energy base has been a key and important cornerstone of the bilateral cooperation.”

Questioning Washington's Stance

In the lead-up to the summit, via a media interview, Putin had criticized American pressure on India's dealings with Russia. Putin stated, “When Washington is entitled to buy our nuclear fuel, then why can't India enjoy the equivalent access?”

This trip was his initial visit to India after the start of the conflict in Ukraine, and Moscow and Delhi engaged in a visible show to display that the bond between the two leaders persisted strongly.
