Suspected Stalker Inquired: 'However What If I Am Madeleine?'
A female accused with harassing Kate McCann reportedly recorded her a recorded message which posed: "imagine I am Madeleine?"
Julia Wandelt, 24, who a jury heard has consistently claimed she was the missing Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are on trial accused with pursuing Kate and Gerry McCann from June 2022 and February this year.
On Monday, the tribunal heard call records and information recovered from phones documented Ms Wandelt consistently requesting Madeleine's mother for a biological test throughout that period.
Madeleine's case in 2007 - when she was three years old during a family holiday in Portugal - is one of the most widely reported missing child cases and is still unresolved.
'I Do Not Need Money'
One phone message, played in court, captured Ms Wandelt saying: "I understand I'm fat and unattractive like Madeleine had been, but I know what I know."
While another instance of Ms Wandelt's recordings with Mrs McCann's recording said: "What if there is a slight possibility that I'm her? Then what? Is that not important for you?"
"I don't want money, I possess a life here in Poland, I simply desire to discover," the message continued.
The panel was told that via emails, SMS messages and communications, Ms Wandelt demanded a genetic test, forwarded childhood photos to her phone in a effort to demonstrate a resemblance to Mrs McCann's vanished daughter, and stated to have "recollections" from a early life with the McCanns.
Robert Jones, an intelligence analyst with the police force who compiled the data, advised the court there "seemed to lack any replies" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt furthermore communicated with acquaintances of the McCanns, based on the communication logs.
On October 9th, 2024, Mr McCann answered a phone call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, saying she had "the wrong phone."
On that occasion Ms Wandelt left a recording on Mrs McCann's recording declaring "I won't give up and I plan to establish my claim."
The court was informed the co-defendant developed a association online with Ms Wandelt before accompanying her on a appearance to the McCanns' home in the county in last December.
Communication data showed Mrs Spragg had communicated using WhatsApp to Mrs McCann to state the press had depicted Ms Wandelt as "mentally unstable" but that she should be treated respectfully in the time leading up to the trip to that location, Leicestershire, in December 2024.
The court was told communications between the two defendants, in November 2024, planning trying to obtain Mrs McCann's genetic material from her trash or from cutlery at a dining venue.
"We need to assert ourselves," the co-defendant told Ms Wandelt.
On the evening of the trip to their residence, the defendant transmitted a message which stated: "We are sitting adjacent to the McCanns' house with our lights out resembling private investigators. I wanted to do this with someone else I didn't imagine I would be doing that with the McCanns."
The trial continues.
