This Swine Life: Hog Named Six Seven Spared by Miami Dade County Leader.
Although not quite at the same level as pardoning festive fowl, but the county's top official had her own Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,” stated the mayor in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued since the beginning of a second term in office.
“Unless you count eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” the mayor added. “I hope she experiences a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”
The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the region’s Hispanic tradition of feasting on pork during the holidays, was founded to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The animal, donated by a local firefighter, was given its name from the modern linguistic fad of young people yelling “6-7” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The trend became so pervasive that a prominent word reference recently declared “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.
A New Life
The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to begin the festive period,” said the event host, in a decidedly positive message.
“It represents the character of Miami: happy, diverse, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Annually, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way unique to Miami.”
Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and Cuban coffee as they toasted Six Seven’s big moment.
